The need for solar

The UK has made a legally binding commitment to a zero-carbon economy by 2050. This can only be achieved with the adoption and rollout of reliable,
affordable, clean energy sources such as solar.

On the 6th April 2022 the UK Government published their Energy Security Strategy, announcing that they intend to accelerate and increase solar power capacity by up to fivefold from 14GW to 70GW by 2035 in order to achieve a 100% renewable electricity grid by 2035.

Wychavon District Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and published it’s Intelligently Green Plan in 2020. The Plan set a target in the District to cut its own emissions by at least 50% by 2030. These targets are in line with the Worcestershire Energy Strategy and national targets.

Our proposals

Roundhill Solar Farm would be located in between Stock Green and Stock Wood next to Roundhill Wood, in the Wychavon District of Worcestershire.

This location has been carefully chosen for its potential to deliver solar powered electricity to the grid. The planned solar farm will generate 83GWh of electricity per year, which is the equivalent energy needs of over 18,000 Wychavon homes and CO2 savings of over 1,200,000 tonnes.

We are also planning to install batteries to store electricity which can be fed back into the local energy network to help balance the grid at times of high demand.

Benefits

Solar farms generate sustainable, renewable energy and are helping the UK to accelerate the reduction of its carbon emissions and over reliance on fossil fuel generated electricity from both domestic and international markets.

At JBM, we place a special focus on creating the greenest schemes possible and deliver industry leading biodiversity net gains on all of our sites.  We actively encourage the improvement of wildlife habitats and plant new trees, hedgerows and wildflower areas wherever we can.

Our projects also create local job and supply contract opportunities during the construction, operation and maintenance phase of our sites.

About JBM Solar

Established in 2012, the JBM Solar team has a proven track record of securing consent for over 1GW of clean, green solar energy schemes in the UK and Ireland. That’s equivalent to the needs of nearly 250,000 homes. JBM Solar is a part of RWE, the UK’s leading power generator.
